Ok well there are a lot of places you can go. LIke best buy, circuit city, staples and stores like that. There are There is four different kind of routers. There is G, Super G, Mimo and N. G is the basic singal that can go about 120 feet in range and 54 mps (megabytes per Second), superG can go 300 ft and 108 mps, Mimo which means multiple in and multiple out goes 240 mps and 400 ft in range, and N goes over 240 mps and over 400 ft in range. N is a completely differenet singal thoiugh and is hard to work with becuase sometimes it doesn't work with the G signal. But for a house, G, super G or Mimo will work great. Now Depending on your internet service the mps will differ. For comcast it is about 100mps and to get the full speed out of it you would use a Super G or higher. But the regular G singal will work as well and you won't see a difference. The next thing is how far you want the signal to reach weather that be to your desktop or laptop. So, maybe the superG will be good in range and speed or maybe not. Maybe its not long enough then you can go to the Mimo router. Thats up to you and how your house is setup. Now you will lose signal through cement so keep that in mind. There are two major brands Lynksys and Netgear i personally like netgear better but they both work great. The stronger the router the more expensive it is. If your goin to go Super G get Netgear's 108 mps router because its faster and can go a bit further but the G and N signals are the same. The mimo router is the best in my opinion made my Netgear and I think is teh best router you can get now a days becuase the N still has some glitches and kinks to work out. The netgear Mimo router will ahve a big blue light on the center of it and you should be able to recognize it in the store. Most routers are cheap now, you can get them from anywhere between $40-109, $40 for G and $109 for N and the others fall in between. When hookin this up there are four different parts. First from the wall there will be a wire coming out a cable wire for comcast or a phone jack wire for most other companies like verizon, that will lead into a box, that box is known as the modem. Then from the modem you take a cat5 cable which is an ethernet cable that looks like a phone jack cable but bigger and you hook it into the router port that says internet. Now you have a network setup in your home. Now your done if your working wirelessly. But you can also hard wire 4 other computers or printers from the router. This is done by taking a cat5 cable and hooking it up directly to your computer. And thats it and everything is hooked up. So good luck and i hope this helped you out.

You get what you pay for. Examples in link, but around $60 to $120 I assume you have a high speed internet link to your residence that the router will be connected to.

The term switch or layer 3 switch or network switch often is used interchangeably with router, but switch is really a marketing term without a rigorous technical definition (though a switch is commonly understood as a network hub with switched ports, which might or might not also perform additional routing functions).

Avoid Linksys unless you want to wait a year for working firmware updates to come out.
