Is that zappa? Anyway it could depend on location but in general cable eats dsl's lunch. Think of the DSL as having a govenor. It won't let you get past a certain bandwidth.. Actually, the bandwidth is fixed.. The more you pay the more fixed bandwidth you get ie dsl lite, extreme etc...
Ok heres some technical info my apologies if it bores you but in case your interested, I have certified cable system amplifiers for the cable co's (the ones on the poll or pedestals) Fiber optic cable is run from the headend CATV Station to a neighborhood location called a node. Fiber optic signals (light pulses) with great bandwidth are converted to copper (coax) signals at the node and eventually make it to your house thru a series of catv amplifiers... The bandwidth that you get thru cable is dependent upon how many total people are concurrently using the internet on your neighborhood node. It isnt fixed like dsl. So in an extreme case with tons of users downloading at the same time you could have less bandwidth than dsl, then later when few were on be screaming'. Practically cable outperforms DSL all the time.. Also the copper cable that the the phone co uses for dsl is a simple twisted pair that runs to an amplifier... the cable system uses shielded coax, and can obtain higher bandwidths over longer distances than twisted pair....oh yea higher bandwidth = faster speed.

To simplify, the phone company sucks anyway.. Go Cable

Yeah cable is much faster. I think the top speed DSL can reach is up to 3mps. While cable can reach up to 7 mps. But not all DSL packages give up all 3 mps. Cheaper packages only give around 768kps. But now there is a brand new type of connection that is much faster then both DSL and cable. Its called Fiber Optics. It can reach up to speeds of 10mps which is crazy fast. I know Verizon is offering Fiber Optics. Well hope I gave u some new info.

The topic of "which is better and faster" has been a highly debated topic, and still there doesn't appear to be a clear winner. DSL offers users a choice of speeds ranging from 144 Kbps to 1.5Mbps. Cable modem download speeds are typically up to 2 times faster than 1.5Mbps DSL, but the reason there is no clear speed winner is because cable technology is based on shared bandwidth, with many factors influencing a users download speed. With shared bandwidth the speed fluctuates depending on the number of subscribers on the network. With DSL, the connection is yours and not shared, and you tend to have a more constant speed. This is one reason why cable Internet providers don't often publish speed information. In more rural areas with fewer subscribers, you're bound to have faster download speeds than a subscriber in a metropolitan center. Because cable modem speeds fluctuate, it is difficult to gauge an exact download speed. On the upload stream, however, cable and DSL are closely matched for speed. Both DSL and cable Internet speeds are largely dependant on the service provider and either the distance away from the switching station you are or how many subscribers are in your immediate area.

Cable is definitely faster just not 7X faster. While it may under ideal circumstances be 7X faster it is usually not. It will usually download files at about 1 mb per second. You should compare this to your current download speeds.

It depends on your location and the carrier. In some instances, your cable connection can slow down significantly if there's a lot of load on the line (like when everyone gets online or turns on their television, causing attenuation). Most large carriers don't seem to have this problem, but smaller ones might.

But yes, if you want really fast, see if fiber optic is in your area. Gargantuan transfer rates.

Not actually, cables meaning wires? DSL is a type of broadband, where you can send and received messages at the same time. while a cable, transmits a parallel signal, meaning one bit att a time... so this consumes more time when transferring data

It really depends on your ISP. In general, I've been more impressed with cable for download speeds and dsl for upload speeds. It really just depends what is available to you.

Recently I switched from Comcast cable to Verizon Fios -- it kicks both cable and dsl's @ss!

Cable is much faster and with a turbo connection over ten times faster than dsl, when downloading webpages or movies and programs.
