there are 12 pairs in a dozen pairs. Since you didn't specify the unit of measure, it tricks a lot of people.

Is this a homework question? You do know there is a minimum age to be here?

one pair = quantity two, same kind of thing
one dozen (normal dozen) = quantity twelve
a baker's dozen = quantity thirteen

Thus there are six pair in a normal dozen
and mathematically 6 1/2 in a baker's dozen, but a 1/2 pair is not called a pair

Yes, if you're talking about just in general how many pairs are in a dozen, then it's 6. However, if you're talking about in a business situation how many pairs are in a dozen, that could be different. If you're in a buying situation, for stock for a store or supplies, etc. then that would depend on how many "pairs" would be considered a dozen. In that instance, you need to find out from the seller or sales rep how many actual units are meant in the terms. (i.e. if you're buying shoes, which come in pairs, then a dozen refers to a dozen pairs; if you're talking pre-packs of a product like socks, a dozen units could refer to a dozen pre-packs of 12, a pre-pack being more than one unit.) It's not unusual for this to be the case, I've encountered it many times.

Again, there are indeed 6 pairs in a dozen in the mathematical sense, but if it's a business question you're asking about, it can vary dramatically and I would refer to the rep, etc. for specifics.

Ahhh another one of your questions for 3 year olds. Obviously there are 12 pairs in a dozen pairs and 6 pairs in a dozen singles and 72 pairs in a gross (dozen dozen).

A dozen what? If it's a dozen pairs, there's 12, if it's a dozen each, that's 6 pairs.
