The federal government is forcing states to adopt a seat belt law or face losing federal $ for road projects. I'm sure the safetycrats will get started on motorcycles in due time.

Yeah, Texas is the same. Only here when they did away with the helmet requirement they only did it for those over 18 and they, by law, can't become a burden on the state if they receive head injuries that turn them into a vegetable. We just pull their plug if they can't pay. My son quit riding years ago after losing a bike on a curve when there was some gravel on the road. He went head first into a bridge abutment. The helmet split into two pieces but other than head to toe road rash he was OK. Helmets work, but the average idiot who doesn't use one, doesn't have enough brains to need one in the first place.

Isn't there all ready enough of these a** bag self save money making laws? if someone doesn't feel the need to wear certain things then that should be their right {at least in a "free" country}. I believe in wearing some sort of head gear but it should still be my right to decide. If it doesn't effect another then leave it ALONE!!!!

A car seat belt will protect you in low and high speed crashes, because the belt keeps you in place while the car absorbs most of the impact. On a motorcycle, anything more than a very low speed, and a helmet will make no real difference because it is your body that is aborbing all of the impact. Cops call motorcycles "donorcycles" because riders have a tendency to end up donating organs...

Lobbying groups like ABATE, have petitioned to have helmet laws repealed. I know of no group that is lobbying to have seatbelt laws repealed.
It all comes down to $$$ and votes in polititians eyes!!

Motorcycle riders are fighting for their rights all the time.
Automobile drivers do not.
While some of us drive cars as well, we are the minority and cannot win without the support of other drivers. When you don't fight, you WILL lose.

Many states repealed their helmet laws when groups like ABATE fought to get them repealed. Nobody is fighting to remove the seatbelt laws.

A helmet limits your ability to see around you, It cuts off your hearing, It also limits your mobility to see whats behind you. If you ride a bike you must accept that you are invisible and that everyone else wants to kill you!! 1) If I can see YOU, you can't hit ME. 2) If I can hear you, YOU can't hit ME! 3) If I know your behind me YOU can't hit ME! As long as your paying attention you have 1/2 of a chance!!

hemets should be made compulsary for riders as well as pillion.actually it should be mandatory for bike manufacturers n dealers to provide a helmet with every bike.it really is dumb on the part of the riders to not wear a helmet irrespective of what the laws are.
