To me, the unexamined life is not living. It is merely existence. This depends on what you consider living to be. Do amoeba's live or are they just alive?

simple answer: unexamined life = not worth living
examined life = worth living

...but thats pretty self explanitory, more detailed answer:
when you examine life you observe it, you see it for what it is. If you were to live your life carelessly, not paying attention to anything, you wouldnt know what was good or what makes you happy. The more you look into things, the better they become. If you pay attention to things you see things that could be overlooked, the simple thing become amazing. in the cheesiest of ways, an "unexamined" person would look at a flower and say "oh look, a flower, whatever" a person who examines life could look at the same flower and say "wow, that is a really beautiful thing" but again, thats "mega cheesy" but hopefully it gets the point across. The more you observe and pay attention to things, the better they become, making a "life worth living"

If you're living in THIS world then unfortunately yes the only way out is by re-examing yourself, motivations etc. The reason being the world is messed up really. Which messes us up.
