As I search online for what I want, it seems that it would be convenient if I could order things at several clicks on my mouse. But is this really safe?

Sometimes hackers can steal credit card numbers and make unauthorized purchases with your card information. However, there is a new technology to make people feel more secure about online shopping. My credit card company, Citi Card, assigns a random card number attached to the credit card designed to help shoppers feel better about making online purchases.

Yes and no (mainly yes if you look carefully into the right things). If the site is the real deal (make sure you spell it right because some people try to make there site with the common misspelling of popular stores.) Also check your credit cards safety by see if it is protected from fraud like Discover and other cards have. Secure Online Account Numbers (like Discover card) let you shop online without revealing your Account number.

Yes. Just be sure to use a credit card (if you ever did run into any problems, you can dispute the unauthorized charges as fraud via your credit card company with no loss to you) and use encrypted websites when you order -- look for the little padlock in the bottom of your web browser when you're typing your card information in.

It depends where and who you shop from.
If the online shop supports paypal or other payment proxy, it has a certain layer of protection in a sense.
