August 10, 2007 - A top seismologist is warning that another major earthquake is in our future, a big one that could devastate Southern California, from the desert to the sea.
Jones says that region is long overdue, and the seismic clock is ticking.

Jones says a magnitude 7.8 quake or more could collapse major freeways, knock down buildings in Downtown L.A., kill thousands of people and cause hundreds of billions of dollars in damage.

Officials in the Coachella Valley say they're taking her warning very seriously.

YOU'VE BEEN WARNED LIBERALS...we will not accept blame on this one.

If it's higher than the previous quakes, the intensity will be blamed on global warming. Throw in a kook or two and they will blame it on too many SUVs. The lack of response to the quake, which is a given, will be blamed on Schwarzenegger, Bush or any Republican in office. If a Democrat is in office, she will be seen as compassionate, caring, she might even pull on some jeans and help with the rescue.

You just know it won't be blamed on Nancy Pelosi! They'll try to find some way to spin it so that it's "W's" fault!

I've been wondering about (and sometimes hoping for) the "left coast's" dropping off into the Pacific for a long time!

To all these libs out in droves tonight condemning you for your question: What did your hero, John F. Kerry (who, by the way, fought Vietnam), do on 9/11? Didn't he say he was cowering under a desk somewhere? And what did the Democrat Governor of Louisiana and the Democrat Mayor of New Orleans do with all the money that should have been spent to build up the levees and for comprehensive emergency evacuation and contingency planning?

I'm sorry, but is that the first thing that came to your mind when you first heard this? Blame?

It won't matter who the President is or who controls Congress or what party they will be affiliated with, it will be the response that we get.

I don't remember placing blame when we got hit with the Northridge earthquake. That was during the Clinton administration and the response from FEMA was fantastic.

I am so glad to know that you are so worried about us placing the blame on you. Let me assure you that will not be the case because we will either be injured, dead or mourning the people that do die.

ADD: Hey gramma! I'm in the same area! And yes, it's sad, a few sound like they are just salivating at the thought.

ADD: OMG, evacuate at the slightest tremor? Do you know how many of these we have every single day??

How could we blame you for an act of God? We can, however, consider this fear-mongering....and, do I detect some glee at the thought of a devastating quake in So Calif? Or, is it out of the goodness of your heart that you feel you have to warn us about it? Well, I live in Antelope Valley in the high desert about a mile from the San Andreas fault. A big quake is never far from our thoughts, but I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy! Your added thoughts above made me sad!

Grow up - I do not know of any liberal that has suggested an earthquake could be blamed on politicians.
I understand that you cannot actually argue the points Liberals do make. So why don't you actually try to learn something instead of inventing strawmen that just make you feel a little better sitting in your white bread world and ignoring the problems going on around you?

Ah...the strawman 'liberals' getting smacked around again...this time even the charge is a strawman. Two! Two! Two strawman arguments in one! Not to worry, Hoss...nobody is going to blame you or your toy president. After all, we now know from experiance that the Bush Junta NEVER assumes reponsibility for anything.....it's always the fault of 'those that hate America', or 'the terrorists', or the 'socialists', or the 'liberals', or the 'communists', or the 'environmentalists', or the 'feminazis' or, if all elses fails.....THE CLINTONS! 'Ya gotta' love these guys!

We Californians have been hearing about this for years. We sleep through anything up to a 5.5. Actually there is no way other than to watch the behavior of animals to predict when it will come. We already know that it will be here sooner or later. We have spent hundreds of millions retro-fitting our freeway over passes and our houses.

I live in SoCal, and I'd actually welcome a large earthquake like the Nothridge quake in 1994.

Back then, almost nobody got hurt and I was able to buy 3 properties in the real estate panic selling and price collapse following the event. I still rent 2 of them.
If it happened now, I'd buy every property I'd get a hold of.

Earthquakes are caused by plate tectonics, not politicians, Einstein.

But Bush will be blamed for the inevitable miserable failure of his incompetent, unqualified cronies he appointed to mismanage federal relief efforts, just like after Katrina.
