Deep slow breathing. White noise helps to, like a fan in the room. Keeps your mind from wandering.

Well this sounds strange, but I read it one time in a book of Indian medicine, and it works quite well most of the time. Go lay down with the intention of sleeping, close your eyes and say out loud. I am sleeping now. Then as you lay there, just think of a star field. Just black sky and stars. If your mind tries to drift to something stressful, in your head, just say I am sleeping now, and re-create the starfield image. It works way better than counting or any of those things.

Get up earlier and work you butt off for about five days in a row and before you know it you will be going to bed earlier and sleeping just fine. We need the level of sleep we do based on our basic level of health and the level of energy expended each day. Increase your energy output considerably for several days and your body will demand rest and if you keep up the output to just a little while before you go to bed and then take a nice hot shower before getting into bed...well, sweet dreams.

Get use to falling asleep at the same time every night. It is preferable at 9 PM or 10 PM. But the same time remember.
I think of the blackboard that has be erased and my mind soon rest and I'm able to go to sleep.
Try exercising in the AM not PM.
If you say your simple prayers you will be very much at peace and fall off to sleep.

exhausting yourself can help you go to sleep earlier, meditation can help you to relax which may help you fall to sleep more quickly. I personally am not a fan of drugs. I choose to use homeopathic remedies because they are not drugs and are non-habit forming and have no side effects. My favorite relaxant/sleep aid is called Calms forte

Take a long warm bath before you go to bed. That always helps me. Or work out for a long time then take a warm bath.
