Sorry Oodles, I'm not a man, but I can tell you women LOVE to shop. It doesn't matter how many colours or styles you have in your shop, they will still visit other shoe shops for the fun and to compare prices. Most women own a mixture of pricey and cheap footwear to suit themselves and their budget. Cheap and fun footwear wear out in a couple of months. Wheeee! What a good excuse to buy a new pair:-)

If we had brains we would not be here. Instead we would be doing a better job of earning more money.
Actually to get good answers, you don't need brains, you need a diversity of experience, and good observers.
If you had marketing skills, the phraseology of your question in the subject summary would say someting about Australia good location, so as to attract attention of people here who know Australia locations.
I am in USA. There are shoe stores like you describe in many shopping malls and there are types of shopping areas where there is a huge parking lot in the middle, with retail stores all around, except for where the traffic comes in and out of the parking area.
A good location then would be
* shopping areas that do not have a competitor already there ... not all shopping areas have these places ... if you open up too close to a competitor, you have a whole other set of marketing challenges to deal with
* shopping areas that are in the relatively well to do economic areas, as opposed to the lower income interested only in shoes when old ones wear out, not for fashion statements
* shopping areas whose rules permit a diversity of advertising techniques so any potential customer, who even comes close to your store, knows that you are there ... I mean I have been in malls where I am looking for something in particular, I go to the map to find out where that store is, then walk to it & in transit, surprise surprise, I did not know there was this other store here with something else that interests me
You also need to give some thought, beyond location, to economical advertising to draw potential customers who do not know you just opened for business.

Go read some of the female profiles on dating sites -- most women are extremely adamant about being defined as women and go to extreme lengths to try to prove they're not women -- they wear ridiculous clothing, ripped up jeans and tie die junk, but won't dressup like a woman, they get mad when someone says they look nice or beautiful, generally they mostly all look like a mess. Very rarely do you ever see them wearing hose or heels or jewelry. Only the real, feminine women do that. THEY are the real women, the rest want to be men. They take pictures with hanguns and fish and their multiple huge and to be honest dangerous dogs. The idea is to scare men off. They say things that are abusive openly and rant often about they want to find the perfect man, but will say in the same breath -- "don't even think about sex" on their profiles. They think men are stupid. They think we don't know what they mean by it when they say things like that and frankly it's offensive. They will do anything and everything to put on a show that they are male. Which consequently, makes them highy unattractive to the vast majority of males in the population -- if this weren't true, there would not be a plethora of women on POF and OKCUPID that are divorced and looking. Go look on youtube for dating site reviews by men, they're absolutely hysterically funny. Eventually, women will get the picture. Men (who aren't gay) don't want to date other men. So yes, they get aggressive when a psuedo male enters their territory and attempts to **** with them openly and abusively on their "dating" profiles... The thing is, women are super agressive these days. Not in a logical or expressive or feminine sense, but they are basically evolving into men which is not good for the average man -- generally no man wants to go out with another man unless he's gay (and there's nothing wrong with that). But, women have forgotten they're dating men, not each other...

My suggestion would be to get in (if possible) next to a nail salon or some establishment like it. Your target market would seem to be somewhat shared - females who take pride in their appearance and have the disposable income allotted for it. Not to mention you'll probably be catching them in a less busy part of the day and while they are focusing on themselves.
