Ha, that's sort of like saying that Velveeta and Ding Dongs are the preferred cuisine of American culture...just had to throw that in. I have a friend in Texas who is totally consumed by NASCAR- her husband even has his own car (but someone else races it) I think NASCAR is an accurate gauge of some PARTS of American culture, but we're all so different! Can you imagine a native New Yorker being into Nascar? :o) I think it appeals to a certain type of people but it's definitely not an accurate gauge of American culture. Good question. I like questions that make me think.

No, it's not fair. I'll ignore the "off track" pun, whether it was intentional or not, and say: not all Americans love cars, not all Americans think it's super cool to waste gallons upon gallons of gas for sport, and not all Americans are entertained by watching cars drive around in an endless circle. There are probably parts of the country that are well-represented by that culture, but America, for all her faults, is a large and diverse country with large and diverse tastes.
