I live in North East Ohio. I was next to some wooden fence. And I saw a very small bee-looking nest. It was about half the length of a $ bill. I took it off the fence. And I thought that no bees lived in it. Then I squished it. And really weird spider came out and it freaked me out big time. So did that spider build the nest or did it rent it out?

I don't know what you mean by a "bee-looking" nest, but I lived
in northeastern Ohio for about 10 years and did a lot of spider
collecting there. I suspect that what you saw was a nest built
by some other animal and just moved into by the spider. Some spiders, including ones that live in your area, do build
nests of various kinds, but not likely on a wooden fence.

I think wolf spiders do, on the ground.
