1991-1998. The epilouge in book seven is 2017. Harry was born July 31, 1980 and Voldemort tried killing him Halloween, 1981. He was eleven when he started at Hogwarts in September of his first year. As that was ten years after Voldemort tried killing him (actually just under ten as it wouldn't be ten until October 31st), then we can get the year he started based on both the year of his birth and the fact that he was a year old when Voldemort made the attempt on his life. That being 1991. His first year would have ended late spring or on/just after the first day of summer 1992. His seventh year, had he returned to Hogwarts for his seventh year, would have started September 1997 and he defeated Voldemort towards the end of that school year, placing Voldemort's defeat in the spring of 1998.

From 1992-1999 I believe. Death date for Harry's parents was 1981 i think. Sort of tolkienish that a new millenia starts with the downfall of Voldemort eh?
