It depends on the reason. if it isn't your child, then get a DNA test.

If it is your child, deal with it. The child needs the money for their well being. If you love the child you would see that.

If you are at odds with the other parent, then do not bring what you owe the child you created, into the fighting ring.

If you figure you can better use the money, for yourself, your needs , etc, then the first thing you need to do is go see a doc and cut it off or sew it up, because you have no business having sexual relations.

What stage of the process are you at?

If you are in the middle of a divorce or a paternity suit, the first question is are you the father? You need to decide if you are going to contest that issue or not.

If you have been found by genetic test to be the father or are not contesting that issue, child support is about income, assets, and the needs of the child. As such, disputing child support at that stage is about what is the accurate measure of your income (which bonuses and benefits should be included/excluded), what assets do you and the child's other parent have that would justify one paying a higher share, what other responsibilities do you have that has a claim on your income or assets, and what does the child need (e.g. daycare, additional educational or health expenses).

If there is already a court order, it is more difficult to dispute child support. Under this circumstance, you need to show a change in circumstances since the original order.

Regardless of your circumstance, child support involves a lot of factual and legal questions. You are best off talking with an attorney to find out the exact way that child support is determined in your state and what information you will need to present at any hearing on child support.

To dispute child support, gather any and all documentation pertaining to your case. Hire a lawyer who is skilled in family matters and go to your local family court.
