I'm trying to find a word that relates to some kind of philosophy or group that sees pleasure as the highest goal. It's not Epicureans or Hedonists. It's something like "Anipodean" or "Antimodian" but neither of those are right. Does anyone know what I'm thinking of? I need it for a research paper but can't seem to recall where I saw it or what referenced it. Thanks in advance!

Well here's my shot at it, not sure that this is what you are looking for but we'll see if this rings your bell:

There was a school of Philosophy in ancient Greece, specifically on the island of Cyrene. This philosophy taught that the only rational aim of life is the pursuit and enjoyment of pleasure. They are now considered to have been an "ultra-hedonist" group.

The name of this philosophy is Cyrenaic, which I know doesn't start with an "A"...BUT, their leading voice was a fellow named Aristippus. So perhaps that is where you remember the A from? Or maybe someone referred to the Cyrenaic philosophy as "Aristippean" perhaps?

Well, I have my doubts that this is what you were looking for, but I gave it my best shot. Maybe you could use the Cyrenaics in your paper anyway, as they are definitely along the lines of what you seem to be writing about. Have a good time!
