In your first day of lectures? You'll get your course outline. Your instructor will go over what the course is about some general university policies, be prepared to take notes, but the first class is never very involved because you won't have your textbook yet! Never get your textbook until the books have been confirmed by your prof.

What should you bring? A backpack or sachel is a good idea. You'll carry your notebooks and texts in there. You'll obviously want pens or pencils. You may want to get some sort of folder system going for your handouts. A lot of the time you're using those tiny desks, so a binder may be too bulky.

What should you wear? Wear anything you're comfortable in. If your comfortable in a tube top and a mini skirt, cool. Remember it's college not a retirement home and most people on campus are in their late teens to early twenties. You certainly don't have to worry about being mature in your clothing style.

Any tips or advice? Be mature in your attitude and serious about your work. Don't skip more than one lecture per class per semester. Always do your reading even if you're just skimming. Take plenty of notes and reveiw weekly. Start working on your assignments as soon as you're assigned them even if you finish your assignment the night before. Ignore your professor's arrogance instead think of your profs and TAs as resources. If you're going to party, finish your work first. You can maintain a good GPA and get drunk/high nearly every weekend with proper time management. Watch who you make friends with, but don't worry about who you hang out with. Don't spend too much time with people who have a negative attitude about university or are just trying for that easy A. Those sorts of people will bring you down. You're better off spending more time with the dullards who study incomprehensible amounts of time for a C+. They'll be a good influence when those easy A party people from last weekend who trying to drag you down.

There's not much to expect. Most teacher's go over their course syllabus, what they expect from you for the class, the grading scale etc. and in smaller classes teachers may do icebreakers. Best to bring a notebook or a folder with paper and a pen or pencil (your preference) to talk any notes with (most teachers don't teach much the first day). Wear something comfortable because nervous and uncomfortable are a bad combo. Try chatting up someone and get their email and/or phone number so you can get in touch with them in case you miss a class and need notes.
Tips in general:
1. Make sure you know when the drop/add deadline for classes are so you don't get stuck with a crappy teacher (also try www.ratemyprofessors.com)
2. Make sure you know when the deadline to return books is because if you buy a book and then change classes you don't want to get stuck with an expensive book you don't even need.
3. Try to talk with an advisor about your plans for your major or just any questions you have.

Expect to be overwhelmed and nervous.. Only pack what you know you are going to use.. Don't overpack clothing.. Especially, if you are coming home on weekends/breaks.. You can always switch seasons pretty easily.. If you know your roommates address write him/her and see what they plan on bringing that way you aren't doubling up on TV's, Fridge's, or any other big appliance that you only need one of.. Remember to bring shower shoes to wear in the bathroom you don't want to get any foot fungus and get a nice robe to wear while going to and from the bathroom.. Wear something comfortable chances are you'll be bringing things up/down stairs so comfort should be over style.. Just be yourself and you will be fine... Good luck..

Bring: Backpack: May be dorky, but who knows what you'll be getting!, Binder or two-may have hand outs, Poket folder- store papers in, Note pad-to write notes or memos, A book to read-maybe you'll have free time, Watch- you need to know the time so you can get around, Pens or pencils-duh!, Your scedual and a map of the school.
Wear: Be mature but stylish, look around stores that have the style you like and then buy mature things, not tube tops and mini skirts!
Advice: Be fast, friendly, orginazied, helpful, learning, sharing, and MATURE

Wear blue jeans and a short-sleeve polo shirt, not one with your school logo on it. Don't try too hard -- everyone else is nervous, too. Just be on time for your classes and watch it all unfold. You'll be fine. Get some cans of cola on ice in your dorm room so they are cold by afternoon, and after class throw the door open and invite your neighbors on your floor to gab. Then wander down for dinner with whoever seems interesting.

Dress casual. Bring a notebook, pen and backpack. Expect a lot of syllabus talk.

Just be yourself.
If you're attending a big university, chances are, you'll find people just like you.
This ensures that you will have a lot in common, and make strong, lasting friendships.
