There is no best answer to this question because everyone is different. Some don't believe because that is the way they were brought up. Others don't believe because they want to see hard evidence or proof. Still more don't believe because of a tragic event in their lives and they are angry at God... The list can go on forever for reasons.
Yes, many scientists do believe, but there are also many who don't. It's not as easy as you think to convince someone there is a God.
What evidence are referring to? Miracles? The Bible? Each one of them can be twisted or changed to meet anyone's desires. I personally believe in a God, but it takes more then just evidence to prove His existence. Faith is a big factor, hope is another, prayer fits in there as well. There is so much more involved then just saying I believe.

why DON'T people belive there is a God....?
Why would I?
when there is so much evidence.
What evidence? If there is evidence why do you need faith?
Even scientist believe it.
There are and were lots of things that individual scientists believe that are just plain wrong, for example Ahmedinijad has scientists fervent on building the Bomb.
Just think about the beginning of this world. Keep in mind when you are answering, God made us so that we WOULDN"T be able to comprehend all of his miracles and works.
That run-on sentence leads with an insubstantiated conclusion.
Keep in mind if there is a God she MADE me skeptical and obscured all of her purposes and traces of herself.

People dont believe b/c there is no physical evidence proving it. Simple. There is no proof that there is some divine intervention in how the universe came to be, nor is there a scientific fact. And when you say that "he" made it so that we wouldnt be able to comprehend all of his works, it needs to be realized that we dont comprehend ANY of them in absolute truth. Either there is no god or we are not evolved enuf as humans to understand how or why we became, be it by "him" or the big bang and primordial soup theory and others.
And another thought...if "he" wanted us to not be able to comprehend his capabilities, then why should it be expected of us to believe that a god even exists? That would make the stories of the testaments mere fantasies of what may/may not be, his miracles more coincidences, and his works the natural evolution of life. Not to insult, but it doesnt make sense.

Tinkerbell, Your question should have been "Why do people believe in God ?" rather than the other way about. Only a small number of people donot believe. But , believer or not , it is really true that a large number of people have gone away from God... sort of distanced themselves. Churches are empty, temples are uncared for. .
The reason is not far to seek. The wedge between God and the people was driven in by religion . Personal Gods were converted into community Gods, spirituality was taken away from tthe religion , rituals became more important than prayers . What should we expect from the people who donot beleive in these changes/ They stay away and YOU call them non believers . Strange.
Today spirituality is being sought by many , under the guidance of great teachers and that augurs well for the community. Belief in the creator( God) is manifesting itself in many ways. Just look at the 20 south Korean nurses , kidnapped in Afganisthan. JUst faith and belief in helping human beings . Spirit overwhelms fear.
We are on the right path , I mean the human race.

Please give me some evidence because I would love to believe. I find it very hard ... maybe I interpret things differently. Oh and I find it very hard to justify how God would send someone who has psychological problems to hell because they where "lesser" than other people (it makes it even harder considering that God made them). That sort of seems that they were doomed to hell, but that doesnt seem fair. Even if it was their obstacle to overcome I thought everone was equal anyways ... I believe there is a higher being, but how could he be all powerful when everyone has free will even though some people are "doomed." I do like some of the moral teachings of religion. So tell me how God is at work when someone is "doomed" to hell?
And I know not all people believe this. But how can a homosexual go to hell when they do not choose to be that way? same sort of question

Where does it say "God made us so that we WOULDN'T be able to comprehend all of his miracles and works". And why would a god do that? Emotionally mature people do not have the need for a surrogate daddy to take all their responsibilities away.

Well I for one do believe in God. Some people just haven't seen his glory or been saved. Let me just tell everyone that it is a wonderful thing. Also, many people think that believing is seeing when really it is the other way around. Great question even though there really isn't a straight answer.

Because it takes a measure of faith to believe in God. There must be more then just the physical evidence.

Well, there are some people, like me, who haven't been brought up to be religious, so we've never really had a chance to see for ourselves.
As of now, I really don't know what to believe, but I'm pretty open minded to both sides of the argument.
