if i change the gears in the transfer case, is it possible to better my gas mileage this way?
any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

no but you can change the differential gears in it and help it some,changing the transfer case or transmission gears wont help it though,the final speed and gear ratio is determined by the gears in the differential units,good luck on it.

Easiest way would be go up 1 or 2 sizes on tire diameter, and have speedo re calibrated.

No, it doesnt work that way, when you start playing with gears you start changing the optimal rpm range for the speed your going. if its to slow of rpm you can cause problems else where. if its to high, once again, problems.

You will lose all your low end torque and defeat the purpose. Leave it alone.
