my sweet little strawberry hermit started molting so i put her in a tank by herself for a week. well on the 7th day when i went to put her back with the other i found her out of the shell dead. what happened? what should i have done different?

to everyone who put rude and ugly remarks i hope you get a different kind of crabs, not the pet ones. Do you people not realize these were family pets and that my 8 and 10 year old kids cried? i hope you rot from the inside out.

maybe it got too old. maybe you dropped it cause when you drop em they dont last for very long.

i don't know, but when mine molt i just leave them in the tank...i keep note of where they buried themselves and just keep an eye on them...since i have been just leaving them alone when they molt, i haven't had a single one die...i have 3 strawberries and 4 caribbean now, with 1 more strawberry on the way

hermit crabs are very unpredictable, it was probably nothing your fault. they are very social creatures so maybe being alone stressed her out. That's what happened to mine, he stopped eating and just died.

if you got it from a pet store/ call them and ask them what to do when they start molting.
