for example:

how would you take it if:

1) someone totally disagrees with your opinion (on anything)
2) a friend of yours (opp. sex) tells you he/she watches porn
3) someone wants a debate on something that u wholly support eg ur religion, ur significant other, ur family?

i'v a friend who told me he watches porn. my first reaction was: oh, is it? (but i didnt sound hostile or anything, i sounded 'understanding' or so my friend says)

it's really weird. he told me that when he told other girls this, he gets sort of ignored (we are Asian) so does ethnicity really make a difference to open-mindedness? i think it does to a certain extend.

what do you think of me and the other Asian girls who 'shun' this guy?

i feel weird. like since i didnt have any major reaction to him watching porn (in fact i asked him when he started and whether he's addicted) i feel like that gives him a reason to like me.

We will start with the easy one. Porn is a matter of personal taste not right or wrong. If it works for your friend fine that doesn't imply you have to like or even watch it. Laugh at him and change the subject.

Now the other. Someone totally disagreeing with you is not a bad thing it is an opportunity to discover what you may have missed along your own journey through life. Debate is a healthy exchange. Two things can happen you can learn something completely new and become wiser for it or you will discover entirely new reasons for your belief after having had to explain them to someone that does not understand. Debate implies a rational (though sometimes animated) discussion NOT a belligerent screaming match. Don't waste your time with abuse but find the strength to agree to disagree. Some of my best friends are people I debate with regularly. It offers both parties a chance to explore outside possibilities.

1) I would of course try to show them WHY I have a different opinion...I mean obviously I believe I am right...so I would want to enlighten them. I wouldn't push it forever if they just didn't want to come around, and I would be more than willing to hear their points for consideration too. It is possible for me to be wrong sometimes! lol

2) I wouldn't even be surprised. Nearly everyone watches porn and I feel there is nothing wrong with it...unless of course the person becomes addicted to it...addictions are never a healthy thing.

3) I would debate with them. It is fun to get heated up about something sometimes. There is of course a limit to when the debate should stop, but if it is just two people going back and forth with opposite opinions, then there is nothing wrong with that...it is a learning experience.

I like to think that I am very open-minded by the way...but I suppose ultimately it is up to you whether or not to believe me! lol

I think I try to stay fairly openminded. My answers to your questions:
1. Everybody has an opinion and I can accept that so someone always disagreeing with me wouldn't bother me. I just wouldn't hang with that person all the time.
2. People who watch porn don't bother me unless it is kiddie porn which would make me never talk to the person again
3. I would listen to their arguements and then express my own views and that would be it. The discussion would end because I would end it.

I consider myself fairly open minded. I will state why i think it's right, but it ends there. I have my opinion, they have theirs. But I'll listen to them.

I don't care if a guy watches porn. Or even a girl for that matter. I"d ask 'em why and what they learned about sex and the male and female bodies in respect to how to turn them on.

I'll listen to them, I might even agree on some of their points, but I still have my opinions and convictions.

depends on what it is.

I think I'm pretty open minded
I believe that everyone is entitled to his opinion so I have no desire to debate opinions, because no one will win.
The porn issue also would not bother me because I believe that there is nothing wrong with porn as long as everyone in the movie is a grown up.

I don't claim to be the most open minded person in the world, merely that I am working on it. I try to tolerate people with opposing viewpoints and at least treat them politely when I silently call them idiots for disagreeing with me. As for pornography, I don't object to it or to people enjoying it, although I might secretly judge them if they were into the the really skanky kind or heavily fetish kind, which I find to be creepy. As for involving myself in debates with people about religion, I try to avoid it.

My current (Asian) gf always reacts negatively to porn (like when a girls gone wild ad comes on tv), but its no big deal as porn is not my thing anyway. My non-Asian girlfriends have ranged from disgust to enthusiasm regarding porn, so my current is somewhere in the middle. I wouldn't want to generalize about Asian attitudes based on one girl....if I did she would beat my butt!

A person or persons with open minds are open to opinions that open up a world of knowledge to be used or discarded. A person with a closed mind will always be in need of something and will be forever looking. In my opinion.

I'm pretty open minded

1. I would discuss it with them, see if one of us can change the other one's mind or simply understand each other... if this does not work out i'm okay with that.

2. Ummm, I'm okay with that... it's better than going out and raping people in order to recieve your sexual pleasure

3. I love to debate! And I will debate anyone i wholly respect lol

So basically I'm prety open minded: 92% according to this quiz

Truthfully, when I was younger I wasn't very open-minded. As I grew older, I also learned to open up more and more. I'm at the point in my life now where your questions !, 2 & 3 wouldn't bother me in the least..........nor would it bother me to discuss anything and everything. I'll keep an open mind (wink)
