If you go on a low-harmone pill, then the side effects are almost non existant. You may have some spotting when you first begin taking them, and maybe some minimal weight gain. I recently started taking Necon 1/35, and absolutely love it. I haven't gained any weight at all, and no spotting. I love that my periods come right on time every month, and are less heavy, and last less days than before.
Most of the pill's side effects are for women that smoke, causing blood clots.

There are so many different options to birth control now a days and they all come with side effects, which may or may not occur for you. There are IUD's, OCP's, the Patch, Depo(which does cause a lot of weight gain in most people, but it does not contain estrogen so blood clots are really not an issue with this.) The new great pill in my opinion is Yaz 28. It is low dose and works for the control of acne and PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder). However it does contain a small amount of estrogen, so there is still a risk for blood clots. I suggest you talk to your OBGYN about all of your different options and the side effects that come with them. Hope this helped!

Side effects vary, usually they are bearable, and if not, you can be switched to another brand. BUT don't take them if you're a smoker!

I took seasonque after my daughter was born, it made me gain weight and it made me kind of moody...i dint recommend taking it. Most pills can make your period irregular and make you gain weight.
