Hi all,

I recently changed the relay in my Mitsubishi Colt '84 sedan. The car was working fine until yesterday.

Last night i tried starting the car, but it wouldn't budge. I hear the clicking sound, the whirring sound on turning the ignition switch, but it still won't start. I tried using jumper leads, but it won't start. I put in a new battery and it won't start.

Can anyone tell me what might be wrong. I noticed one thing. When the ignition switch is turned on without actually turning all the way to crank, the rpm needle starts acting up on its on. I dont have the money to get it fixed by the mechanic. Please advise.

Try checking each connection from the battery to the starter. Even if it feels tight, sometimes a little corrosion gets in there and won't let the high current thru necessary for the starter drive. Just need to check the heavy wire, not the little ones to the relay or ignition switch. Sometimes it seems fine, but isn't. Be careful not to hit a ground with your wrench as you loosen and re-tighen everything.

Good luck!

You may have a weak battery on its last legs and it isn't throwing out enough AMPS to engage the solenoid and throw the starter gear into the flexplate/flywheel.

Otheriwse, the connections on the battery cables or maybe the connections to the solenoid might need to be cleaned up.

After you clean up the battery cable connections and it still fails to engage the flexplate/flywheel then you need to focus on the battery. Most auot parts shops will check it out for free.

Good Luck!
