Ok, so I already asked a question about my hermit crabs sand and where I can get some cheap sand: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AscPLIqdYb_54tTPxxwFA0nsy6IX?qid=20070811112717AAz76po

Kimbee J recommended that I get the sand from The Home Depot. Since it's a lot cheaper, and, you get more sand! But, I was woundering, does anyone have a link for that? Like, could someone point me in the right direction of The Home Depot online site, but, it is already in the sand section? Thank you SO much, and, 10 points to whoever gives me the right site, first!

Hello again. :) I don't know if you can buy it online, but it's homedepot.com. You should be able to buy play sand from any hardware store or maybe a large chain toy store?

When selecting sand for your crabitat, avoid getting quick-crete or building sand which often contains impurities including metal shavings. If you feel strongly about doing a sand-only substrate look to playsand (the kind put in sand boxes) and wear a mask when pouring and handling as silica dust is dangerous.

Calcium sands are often pushed on crabbers but it smells when wet and cakes which doesn't work well when crabs need to dig.

Your sand should be wet to a sand castle consistancy when you put it to allow your crabs to tunnel. Make sure it's twice as deep as your biggest crab.

Coconut fiber bedding is also a good choice and personally I use a mixture of sand, fiber bedding, and moss.

You can get playsand from anywhere for your hermit crabs. You can get a 50 lbs bag for 3$ if you bought sand online the price might be cheap but the sipping would be ridiculous. Just make sure you bake the sand before placing it in your crabitat with your hermies. For more info on how to bake items to put in your crabitat you can go to www.crabstreetjournal.com

They probably don't sell the sand online, so you'll have a heck of a time finding a Home Depot sand page.
