so in the papers and all, the men get way more recognition than the women. in countries like india there are whole pages on mens cricket but basically nothing on womens. when you play in leagues, sometimes women/girls who want to play have to play on all men/boy teams because there arent enough girls to form a girls team. what do you think of this; do you think girls are weird to want to play the game/ is it unnatural? and can anyone name good women players? i am asking this because my friend is in charge of a cricket academy in england, and is wondering if it is worth advertising to girls as well to join.

It's good for the game to involve the females of the species as well. Otherwise men are going to have a torrid time in tying to fool around the tv when ever ther's a match on :-)

Seriously, it's a good thing. The only problem is that it takes a little bit of a time extra to catch up in the tradition bound societies of South Asia.

However, though the standards of women cricket are lower in this part of the world than in Oz or England, I think it has come a long way fairly fast.

It's not unnatural for women to play cricket. Can't name of a good woman cricketer I'm sorry (need to pay more attaintion to that). However your friend should go with the idea and promote it further.

After all every journey begins with the first step!

I think it is awesome that women finally take to the game of cricket. I'm all for that. However, like any other sports in this world, it'll take a very long time for them to be recognised. Even the oldest tennis tournament, the Wimbledon just this year provide for equal purse for both the men and women champions.

Another example is soccer. World Cup for men is televised live to almost every corner of the globe but the women World Cup, you only find out about the champion when you read the newspaper.

From cricket academy point of view, it would be great if your friend were to advertise and attract the girls to join. The trick is how do you make them continue to play the game after they leace the academy? Maybe the next step is to organise tournament for girls.

Though Woman's cricket has not yet got the same recognition and popularity as Men's cricket, it is slowly and steadily getting popular in more countries. The main reason why the game has not yet become most popular is lack of sponsors.
