I am white and I have a 1 month old black foster son. Any time I take him into public the older black women yell at me and tell me that I better cover his face from the breeze (in 90 degree weather) or he will get colic. They also say that having him out in night air will cause colic. I just laugh cause I think it's silly. Have you ever heard this? Why do people think this?

Colic from a breeze ? uh, I don't think so.

Gulping to get air from a s t r o n g wind, and swallowing the air which goes into stomach as well as lungs,
this
I can see.

Any time you get a strange question like this, call the pediatrician. You being a foster parent - as good as you are - you don't want some dum-dum questioning your intentions.

I'd be covering him from bright sun and heat but not a breeze. Lordy, I wish we had a breeze here ! - 102 degrees today 112 index.

Well, I don't know about colic, but I've always covered my childs babyseat with a receiving blanket when going outside especially when they're that young so the wind doesn't steal her breath away or even just to give them shade from the sun.

babys at that age can gulp air from a light breeze. I know others say otherwise, but you are the one who has to deal with the screaming baby all night long. I covered the carseat with a light blanket until I got them to the location we were going. Otherwise the baby shoudl be kept out of the wind at that age. Night air doesn't cause colic. But gulping a night wind can. Even a light wind to us can be a big wind for them. :)
