"A moral response to terrorism must be more nuanced than is allowed by the metaphors of a "war" or a "crusade against evil".

Thanks!

Nuanced means subtle and diversified and multi-faceted. Nuances are subtleties.

The expressions "war" and "crusade against evil" are simplistic metaphors. They're like bumper-sticker slogans in that they are quick and superficial and express an opinion without really offering up a mature solution to a problem.

Terrorism won't be solved by offering up glib, superfical slogans or terminology. A diverse spectrum of problems have caused terrorism, and only a diverse specturm of solutions will solve the problem of terrorism.

It is saying "I am smarter than you are, so much so that you would never understand what I plan to do, so you have to trust me."

What it really means is "I'm clueless, but so is everyone else so give me a shot at it."
