I am currently shopping for a good used family boat .. I am running into alot of Bayliners and several other models.. My husband says that he was told that Bayliner is the low end chepo boats and frowns on them when I point one out... Are they low end boats to stay clear of or are they as good as any for the money?

Bayliner is what you call an "entry level boat". That's industry talk for a cheapely made boat. For most things they are ok. It's like anything else, you get what you pay for. They are not built for a long life. I have seen sunlight thru the hull while in the bilge on more than one Bayliner. I have been a boat mechanic for ten years and your husband is right to frown on them. The one thing they have going for them is they are cheap. Careful inspection utilizing a surveyor is highly recommended on any brand of boat you are looking at and a carefully inspected Bayliner should bring you a lot of good use as much as any boat. They just rot and deteriorate faster than most. Good Luck!!!

Bayliners are fine boats, they are not as high end as some of the others but where it counts, they are fine.
They float, and the motors run fine.
Like a chevy Vs caddilac, both will get you there just fine but if you want oohs and aahs at the dock get somethign flashier.
If you want good value for the $$ Bayliner is as good as any other.

well all boats are built very good these days and if i remember Bass Pro owns Bayliner now and they have a high quality for boats. now it is late in the season, depending on where you live and if you wait just a little longer the prices will come down

They are not that bad,,they float & do not fall apart. If they were that bad, they would have been out of business years ago. You can get them for less. But I think I would look around, you are at the end of the boating season & you can find better deals now.

i think your husband is right. But anyway it depends on how much money you want to spend. I would like to recommend you Regal (http://www.yachtcouncil.com/yacht-manufacturers/yacht-manufacturer-info.asp?builders=2048). You can find used boat for a good price, cuz Regal always have good resale values (http://www.yachtcouncil.com/yachts-list.asp?VesselFilter_Generic_frm_auto=1&measure_text=US¤cy_text=US+Dollar&country=0®ion=0&state=0&mls_id=&sub.x=0&sub.y=0&used=2&type=3&measure=0¤cy=7&loa=&loa_=&price=&price_=&year=&year_=&builder_text=regal).
