Upbeat tempo ones make you feel like you want to get up and dance. Beyonce's "Get Me Bodied" is such a fun song and also just recently came out Kat DeLuna's new album and that has so many upbeat songs but since this is under senior citizens then I kinda don't know. Though I don't suggest blues because that'll only get you more depressed. As for jazz I would recommend since it is fun and crazy [at times]. Though the best music is the type that have good positive messages. So really listen to what a song is saying.

Music has been a part of my life as long as I can remember.
When I'm a bit depressed I love my rock, or gospel rock, or Jazz (Fusion Brubeck Style), or country, or classical - any of it.
Some of my favorite rock groups to being me out of a depressed mood are: Def Leopard, Hall & Oates, KISS, Led Zeplin. And preferably a cut that really rocks!

I listen to Beethoven's Piano Concerto #5 and it can help me to cry (sometimes we need to do that) because it is beautiful and that kind of beauty brings tears to my eyes and then I feel better!
(Like Deborah on Everybody Loves Raymond, who had to listen to Ice Castles so she could have a good cry). Anyone see that ....so funny.

May I suggest some hip hop, it will rekindle old fires and make you think of what you wish you'd done when young enough to do it.
