your front axle is leaking gear oil

If you look under the front end, you might see a large kind of circular piece that both front axles run into. A lot of people call this the "chunk". There are internal gears in there that control the front axle drive when in four wheel drive mode. There is a cover plate over that housing with a gasket that runs around and underneath that plate. It's like a pot with a lid on it.

Sometimes there can be a fluid leak if that gasket is either very old or is not fitting good.

If the leak is not there then it could be at either front wheel where the axles are. Usually there is a boot there that can sometimes split or crack and fluid or grease leaks out of there.

I would need more information to answer your question. But here are a few examples--these can cause front end leaks. Hoses that are bad, radiator, water pump, oil and tyranny and etc. You moght want to see if any of those are bad.
