About a month ago I lost my job. I was working for my aunt. I was fired. I wanted to file for unemployment, but I was told only if you're "not at fault" can you receive it. Also, I had an interview at the local courthouse. The lady called me two days later to ask if I could work full time. She hinted that I was "picked for the position", but said it takes one to two weeks for the background check, reference checks, and commissioner to sign off, and did not say it is definite. It is now Sunday, and Tuesday will be two weeks. I called a week ago and the lady once again reminded me that it takes a while. I want to call again, but don't want to nag. On the first I owe $700 and I don't have it. I applied for state aid, but that was no help. I don't have a car and rely on the bus system. I have been homeless on and off for two years and I am panicking about losing my apartment HELP!

I have been applying for other jobs. I applied for state aid, and they said I'm not eligable bc I'm not disabled. For cash assistance or medical of any sort. When the job loss happened.. my aunt had told me she was "demoting" me. Only after I said that I was going to apply for unemployment did she say that corporate would fight me bc I was technically fired. There's a heap of confusion now. I'm like so upset.

Go to your rental office and explain the situation. Give them copies of the relevant paperwork showing you've applied for assistance, and ask if they could make an exception and waive any late fees, as you won't have the money in time.
But I suspect this isn't the first time you're going to be late with rent. You say you were fired a month ago. That's plenty of time to get your butt into the nearest Wal-Mart/McDonalds/Taco Bell and get a job, even for the short term. There's no excuse for not having a job by now.
If you lose your apartment and are homeless again, get your butt into some counseling or education so you can stop the cycle. Obviously you did something wrong and that's why you lost your last job . . .and you might not even qualify for the new one given your background.
So why are you on Y! Answers when you should be out getting a job?

well, even if you get the job you probably won't have that funds by the first. just being realistic. most jobs don't pay you the week you start, you know. usually it takes 2-4 weeks before you ever get your first check. i am sorry dear but you need to be looking for other arrangements even if you do start the job soon. have you tried asking your landlord if he may have apartments that are coming available and may need cleaning for some extra money?
as far as how would handle the job situation, i would wait until tuesday and call and just show interest and remind her you are still here. calling once a week is not nagging. if i was hiring someone and they called once a week to get the update, i would see it as a good sign. not a negative.

You should file a claim immediately regardless. You will need to show proof to other social service programs that you are not eligibleif it should come to that. Inform your landlord of your situation and ask him to give you an eviction notice of 72 hours. This will put you in an emergency situation and that should give you more time to straighten yourself out. Use the security deposit for last months rent and start looking for another place. As for the job, it never hurts to show you are eager to start, but don't become a nuisance. You will be ok if you stay on the straight and narrow.

I would call again I would tell the lady I'm not trying to "nag", but I really had my heart set on this job. That will also keep you on there minds when making a final decision.

this is a tough one to furnish a single answer to yet fairly demands some exploring. In thought you attempt to adhere to the suitable procedures of coping with damaging circumstances, well mannered, civil, calm etc.... yet whilst it comes right down to it if the subject concerns are provoked to the element that they grow to be burning subject concerns then the survival instinct kicks in and that i consistently wish that as quickly as that occurs that I actual have not made an entire and utter catastrophe of issues with my reaction. i'm asserting that I emotionally convey myself, could desire to could desire to cry, could desire to could desire to rant, could desire to could desire to confront and then blow off the steam based... no rely if it particularly is a few thing unhappy like maximum cancers or a coronary heart attack ending yet yet another existence then for me for my area it particularly is internalizes. I take that to coronary heart and it variations and outcomes my each and every thought and action yet below the exterior and that i do no longer administration, it particularly is an instinctual reaction telling me to stay my existence as authentic as i will for the reason which you will possibly be long gone in an on the spot. shop smiling returned at you....:)

You should file for unemployment benefits just because you really don't seem to know for sure if you are eligible and maybe you are. Otherwise I would seek employment while I waited for the court lady to get ahold of you.

Did you explain all that to the person you talked to? What sucks is that you are single, if you had 3 kids from 3 different men the state would be jumping through hoops to gove you taxpayer money, free apartment and food stamps.

Friends and relatives. This is a time when you find out who your friends are. By the way offer to help them in exchange for helping you. You'd be surprised!
Here's my advice. When you find out who they are, don't forget them later on !

I'd apply for other jobs in case you don't get the one at the court house.
