I respect every-body's right to speak up and out, whether I agree or not.
The abuse button is good only for some of the people who show up here and are abusive. I've seen some pretty offensive avatars and vile language. In that case, I'll use that abuse button, but only then. Other than that, speak your mind. I defend your right to do that and expect the same respect from others.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work out that way. There are snitches on both sides here who if they decide they don't like you, or what you have to say, will press that abuse button in a heartbeat.
I received my latest violation this morning and if could see it, would laugh, because it's not a violation. Apparently someone didn't like what I had to say. As always, I'll fight it, but it won't go on the violation forum any more. My 'snitch' hangs out there as well. At least I know who the person is and that makes things easier.

I think that the report abuse button is far too often abused itself. I think it should never be used for anything other than the most vile offenses....Like when I was answering a question, and another female person wrote nothing but the five letter word that begins with W and ends with E and has the letter R in the middle. She wrote this word, starting at the left of the column all the way to the right, and repeated it over and over for what had to be at least 12 inches down. This I consider a reportable offense. Different points of view are not reportable offenses. Getting other people's accounts suspended, just because you don't like them, or what they have to say, is a mentally disturbed and ignorant thing to do. Exceptions can be made when, another person consistently targets you for attack, falsely accuses you of things that they themselves are actually guilty of, sends threatening emails, clones you, reports you, gets you and others suspended just for the sake of getting people suspended, stalks you, trolls you, and so on! Under such circumstances, then I think that it may be okay to fight fire with fire! Otherwise, everyone would do well to just live and let live, and if you don't like what another person is about, then just stay out of their way!
Most people will not attack others unless they are attacked consistently first. It is usually only trolls that attack and harass first! *sm*

No, it is not a violation of the first amendment. Yahoo Answers is "private property" (not public as it isn't a government entity) and you are permitted to use it IF you accept and follow the rules they set forth. You had to agree to these terms BEFORE you were given access and if you choose to violate those rules, you are subject to the consequences Yahoo Answers informed you about when you first agreed to the terms. And as for the opinions of random people being responsible for your account being deleted, it is no such thing. All a person can do is report you...but it is Yahoo themselves who decide if your post is a violation of their T&S. If you post something that is against the rules, you alone are responsible for the consequences, not the people who reported you. Good luck!

Done in the immigration section, its a war between several groups. They violate one group and tehn they retaliate with their violation. Then they both come and whine about being violate. The problem is that innocents get hit by mistakes. Some of the violation are reasonable, but they begin to think their policemen of this site, and start violating people for the wrong reason. I violated 2 people in the last 6 months and one of them was being really vulger. I don't even violate the one guy who repeatedly violated me.

Well, its better that WE regulate the site ourselves insteed of Yahoo, as corporate control is the same as censorship!! Also, we cannot deny that they are some users here with their own agenda, which is sad to see, but cannot do anything against them blasting their propaganda... But I guess its the price to pay to live with a certain freedom, if we don`t like it, I am not sure we will enjoy the only other alternative to this!!! And you know what I mean!

I think now that we have the block user button they need to remove the report. Report is silly and juvenile. Oh wait, forget that, a lot of the YA users are just that "silly and juvenile".
So yea they over use the report abuse and it's sad because I love a good debate.

It is necessary due to some vile users who choose to use inappropriate pictures for avatars, harass other users or threaten them with physical violence because of a difference of opinion.
Yahoo should fix how they deal with the abuse reports though. They claim a person reads each one when clearly they don't. Also until they are going to make people verify each account that is set up reporting abuse does nothing. It takes two minutes to set up a new account and get right back to their filth.

I thought the 'bad answer' vote was for disagreements and the 'report abuse' button was for things that (I think) are too nasty for a 14 year old. I've voted 'bad answer' countless times and reported three or four questions that were vulgar. Now really, have I been doing it wrong?

I only report people who threaten harm upon individuals who are oblivious, or if they use excessive, unnecessary, foul language. Other than that, I don't go hog wild, even if I disagree with their opinion.
I think I've only accumulated two violation emails, but Yahoo's reasonings are retarded, so I lost a lot of points for nothing.

I'm a firm believer in freedom of speech, and I think the option is abused more often than it's used properly. I got reported a few days ago just for pointing out that someone was trolling (she was), and I'd be willing to bet my last dollar that it was in retaliation because she thought I'd reported her (I hadn't). I don't think there's any justification for reporting things just because someone doesn't agree with someone else's opinion. Everyone has a right to an opinion. As one of our founding fathers once said, "I disagree with everything that man's saying, but I'll defend to my death his right to say it."
