I have an 84 Chevy Suburban 6.2 diesel and 700r4 Trans. I came up to a stop sign, then started going, first gear went real high, and I tried to let off a bit to let it ****, but it didn't just kind of sounded like it fell out of gear, and now I have no go. I press gas, nothing happens. Park still won't let it roll, but 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th are gone. Automatic trannys are not my specialty and I'm not trained on them much, so I am curious, does this sound like a full rebuild or a shift cable or what? Thanks in advance for your advice.

It sounds like you lost hydraulic pressure. The tranny fluid pump is more likely to fail before the gears or inner guts die.

Age and mileage would dictate a rebuild which would include the pump and the torque convertor. They usually replace the first gear, too.

Might consider a swap and drop from your auto parts store that sells rebuilds or pay someone to swap and drop it.

If you take it to a shop that does complete rebuilds they'll charge you and arm and a leg, $1,200-2000, to rebuild your tranny and re-install it.

You can have them diagnose it and do just the minimum and save a lot of money that way. Just to drop the tranny and re-install it some shops charge $250-500. Hopefully you can get by with a new pump and get off cheap. The tranny has to come out to replace the pump.

Good Luck!

i could spring for a extra moderen type 700r4. I had a 1986 Chevy Silverado with a 6.2l diesel and the transmission in it lasted approximately 3 hundred,000 miles. GM fixed extremely some issues between those years.
