As long as the timing mark on the cam gear is in a straight line to the one on the crank your good to go! Then just make the #1 cylinder piston is top dead center and line up your pickup with the number one plug wire in the distributor and it will be timed good enough to start.

There should be a dot on the crank & the cam gear. Line them up. Pro engine builders use a degree wheel to do it.
