Try thinking about this...a lot of people just change their names without thinking about it. If women believe that men and women are equal, why does the woman usually take the husband's name instead of vice versa, or them both keeping their own names? It sounds like you're with somebody you love and consider your equal (seeing as how you married him :) ) so why don't you just keep your own last name?

Got a married certificate from Vermont, and go to the court house in Massachusetts with a Birth Certificate, and another form of Identification with a photo and file the name that you want to change it to. I think the fee is $25.00, that was what it was a lot of years ago, it may be less or even free now. I hope he is in agreement, and goes with you it would make it a lot easier.

it doesn't matter if you go to the Social Security office first, or the DMV. be sure you have a legal copy of your marriage certificate. it should have an embossed seal or otherwise be a certified copy. if you go to the DMV, then all you have to do is show your identification along with your marriage certificate, and they will change the name on your license. if you go to the Social Security office first, it's the same thing, show them the certificate and ID. it's the same either way. also, have your Social Security card with your previous name so there's no mixups. (I've had to do this four times, once for each marriage, and then again for divorce when I went back to my maiden name.)

It's the same in all states. You go to the Department of Motor Vehicles first with you marriage license, then Social Security office, then the bank, etc and show them proof of your marriage, ie, your license, and wala! Your name is then legally changed. If you get divorced, it's the same process.

You change your name the same way in every single state. Go to social security first, then DMV, then your employer, (change your w4 as well as all employment files) you change your name on all of your bank accounts, all credit cards, loans etc. Change your name on your medical records as well as any medical insurance you have. Change your name on your dental records as well as dental insurance if you have it. If you are in college you will have to change your name on your files in school. If you have children your name change will have to be on all of their school records as well as all of their medical records. If you have life insurance you will need to change your name on that, if you belong to triple A or have any car insurance you will have to change your name on them as well.
