I need some darkness within 45 minute drive or so.

Basically anywhere where that has the least amount of lights. I think the meteor shower is still technically going on, even though the best night was supposedly on Sunday 8/12. I don't know what part of Dallas you live in, but here are some options:

--Telephone Lake, near Bonham. Lots of the astronomy enthusiasts go out there during shows.

-- Pike, TX (near Celeste)
