My good grass has been taken over by weeds, now I have no lawn left except weeds. I can't seem to control them. Would it be the very sandy soil I have?

it may be due to varying things... one reasno my be the grass type and soil it is in, preferably look up the best grass type for your area and soil type. another reason my be the weed themselves and the poision you are using. I find that poison doesnt always KILL the weed iteself, just the foliage, most weeds need to be dug out at the roots to prevent them growing back. some weeds are ground covers, so they spread faster over a wide area, these need to be dug out properly to prevent them spreading. Also some weeds have spores, so if these are flowering weeds, its likely birds, incects and the wind spread the pores around the lawn, forming more weeds, these need to be dug out also. if u just rip the top off the plant, the roots remain, so it will eventually grow back and spread.

You need to spray them more often and fertilize your lawn three times a year, once the grass becomes more healthy it will do better than the weeds--I poison my weeds at least 3 times a year.

Your best bet is to have healthy sturdy grass such as tall fescue. I don't know what part of the country you live in. If you are in northeast, seed your lawn this fall with this type of grass. Also, weed will grow, if you don't fertilize or water the lawn. Spend money in installing sprinkler system or take the trouble to water the lawn yourself. Healthy grass will not allow weeds to grow.

there are so many things that determine this. Are you poisoning them after they have went to seed are they the kind that spread thought the root system and by seed? some weeds need to be killed in the spring some in the fall after a frost some spread when pulled. Check with your local ag. office or if you have one your local weed and pest .afer all that what they are there for.

One man's weeds are another man's treasure! Fact is that you've provided the best scenario for the appropiate life to evolve and thrive in. I'd just learn how to get it going better and how to keep it manageable. Lawns are like cats- they chose you,not the other way around.

The thicker your grass the better its ability to choke out the weeds.
