It depends on what is causing the anxiety. If it's coming from the emotions, then you make two columns on a piece of paper.
Next, write down what you don't like in one column, then use those dislikes as a springboard to write down next what you do like.
Here's an example:
1- I don't like waking up feeling out of control. 1a. I want to feel relaxed in my sleep.
Write down as many things that you can think of...maybe 25 to 50 things. For each one that you don't like, write down something specific that you do like. As your wife does this, she can draw a line through each thing she doesn't like, one by one.
From those "do wants," create an ideal situation and write that down.
When focusing on the good stuff in your ideal scene, tell yourself you're "in the process of ..." getting your ideal scene.
If the problem is biochemical, then she'd need to take some herbs or vitamins, because self-talk therapy doesn't replace a shortage of nutrients.
I'd use St. John's wort and/or 5HTP (or tryptophan itself) to start. If that doesn't do the trick, it could be a deeper or more complex challenge, such as digestive problems, which can produce many seemingly unrelated symptoms.
Good luck and be well.

Advice is what advice does. Experience however is a great teacher.
I have had chronic depression as well as chronic schizophrenia, in addition anxiety attacks. I have been diagnosed six times as completely and permanently in remission for good and not likely to have it come back by one psychiatrist, then I thought,,, whoooa Physicians heal thyself. It was however concured elsewhere, felt happy for months after an opinion like that, also because of the products I take.
Herbalife is unique, it is not for everyone, and even all the distributors might not have mental health experience or be acredited.
We truly are what we eat. Today even the Australian Altziemers association issue a book on what foods to eat to go towards preventing this illness. Funily enough these same foods also have an amazing effect with mental illness.
These foods contain nitric oxide, when taken in particular combo whilst excluding all junk foods, dairy, soft drinks alcohol and caffiene, foods rich in anti oxidants, tend to want to create the human cells from DNA
What this allowed in me, was effectively a new brain without brain transplant. Jokes aside, I now sell the same products and swear bye them

The first thing is to find a professional who can help to help your wife discover the source of her anxiety. It can be work related, family related, some past trauma, or just inability to cope with stress. Instead of using medications, which causes a dependency, investigate neurofeedback for anxiety. It is a safe, effective, alternative approach that is approved by the American Psychological Association for the treatment of anxiety and depression and many others things like ADD/ADHD. It requires several sessions but it works. Read below on my website to learn more

There are usually always physical (rather than "mental") causes to anxiety. Fatigue, insomnia, mental confusion, anxiety, nervousness, mood swings, faintness, headaches, depression, phobias, heart palpitations, a craving for sweets, cold hands and feet, forgetfulness, waking at night, dizziness, blurred vision, inner trembling, outbursts of temper, sudden hunger, allergies, and crying spells are all symptoms of hypoglycemia. For one person in every ten, sugar is a deadly food, paving the way toward a hundred distressing physical symptoms, plus all the tortures of neurotic and even psychotic behavior.

Other problems could be anemia, which has symptoms like racing heart, weakness, fatigue, insomnia. A blood test will determine this.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.
Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

In adults, other symptoms may occur, including confusion, forget-fullness, and personality changes, which may be mistakenly attributed to dementia. Neglect of person hygiene and diet in an adult person may also be an indication of underlying depression. Sometimes, depressive illness manifests itself as a physical symptom, like fatigue, or may lead to a physical problem, like constipation or headache.
Severely depressed people may see or hear things which are not there. Irrational delusions may also occur. For instance, a depressed person may become influenced that his or her partner is having a sexual relationship with somebody else. Tell her to see a psychologist. Therapy helps a lot of people, tell her to give it a try, what can she lose? A lot of people don't like taking medication, myself included. So tell her to try it out.
