I just saw a commercial for these produce bags that absorb ethylene gas (the stuff that makes produce ripen). So you put your produce in this bag, and it stays fresh longer! I thought that was a neat example of and application of chemistry. But really, chemistry is used in medicine, biological sciences (lots of organic), engineering, physics... virtually any science. Chemical reactions are all around you - and inside you! Since the world is made of "chemicals," you can apply chemistry to anything and EVERYTHING! Baking, removing nail polish, thinning paint, fertilizing your grass, running your car, microwaving, breathing... all made possible by chemistry!
