Hi, All!!
Has anybody else had problems with the strength of the air conditioner in their 2006 Mazda3? Mine does not get very cool.
In spring 2006, I purchased a brand spankin' new 2006 Mazda3. Shortly thereafter, I noticed the air conditioner was weak so I brought it back to the Mazda dealer. They checked and said it was fine.
This summer is scorching hot. Every time I drive I have to turn the a/c up to the highest strength to really cool down. Is it only my car or is this a problem for others too?
Thanks for any help you can give me!!

You need to go to a different Mazda dealer in your area and have them check your AC system as you have a leak or some other issue with your car. Blowing weak cool air is a sign you have a problem with your AC system: whether its a leak; poorly charged system, or compressor issue. The dealer your using obviously doesn't want to have to eat the profit margin to do the repair with the car under warranty. I would also register your Mazda's VIN on the Mazda corporate website and see if there is a recall on the AC system for you vehicle...dealers hate recalls as they get nothing but money for the parts for fixing a recall. Lastly, you need to use a better Mazda dealer for repairs to your Mazda than the current folks your using. The AC is a minor issue compaired to safety issues...and I would have no confidence in the current dealer your using if they can't diagnose and fix the AC.

Best test for A/C is to stick a thermometer in the center vent. Put A/C on recirculate and fan speed on low. Temp out of vent should be 35-40 degrees F.

Some factors effect how the A/C works. A dark car can be 15 degrees hotter than a white car on a sunny day. The larger the volume inside the car, the longer it will take to cool down. A station wagon or van will take much longer to cool than say a pickup truck. How hot is it where you live. If you live in a real hot, humid area, the A/C will have to work much harder.

I used to work at a dealership. They get paid to replace parts and get paid labor for warranty work. They want to keep you as a customer, so unless they are really stupid, they will do the job right. Ask them what tests they did on your car and if there were any bulletins regarding A/C problems on it.

Common problem with the 3. There is an a/c diffuser that should be installed so just take it back and ask them if it's installed. This is by far the biggest complaint for the 3. Also check to see if you're pulling air from inside the cabin or fresh air. The switch will be illuminated amber (the middle button) if it's using cabin air. You want to use the cabin air cause it's already colder than the fresh air. Tinted windows help a lot also.

Sounds like the dealer needs to look for a leak, repair it and recharge it. Had it in for the problem already they should cover it under warranty, if they don't yell more.
