1% of x(the number to find)=12
= 0.01(1% equals to 0.01%)x=12
To find x, you have to take away the 0.01, so divide each number by 0.01
= 0.01x/0.01=12/0.01
= x=12/0.01(i showed this step in case you don't understand.)
= 1200
So x equals to 1200.

Hope it helps!!!

You Can always replace the "of" with "x" (times) in a math statement and "is" with =.

12 = 1% x SOMETHING

1% is also written as 1/100 = 0.01.

So rewritten:
12 = 0.01 x SOMETHING

SO, SOMETHING = 12 / 0.01 when we divide both sides by 0.01.
12/0.01, using your calculator = 1200
