Lets say maybe I was going to have a girl...maybe...and just maybe the "mother" does not want to have this "kid". Can’t I drop the baby on the front steps of a hospital and leave? Hypothetically. This is not a matter of ethical dilemmas people, so a strait answer. What is the law for this? And for how young does the “child” need to be?

the child needs to be 3 days old and have NOT been neglected or abused to not face any charges. You can leave the baby at the hospital, or any place that says it is a safe surrender site for a baby = like the fire station even. What state are you in?

If you are in CA. go to this website, and you can search for the city you are in and it will tell you where you can legally leave the baby

Many states allow a mother to drop off a newborn (only a few days old) at hospital or fire station.

This law exists because it if far better to leave a child at a hospital then a dumpster.

Don't drop and run bring the child inside.

If I understand this correctly, you can drop it off at a hospital or a church, not a government office. If you or a friend choose to do this, make sure it is a well populated area. For example, some churches are only open 2 days per week. A child could be in danger waiting 2-3 days.

It is illegal to drop a baby at ANY government agency. Many states have laws allowing you to leave the baby at DESIGNATED agencies. Fire departments and hospitals are common. The post office would not qualify.

I believe there is a "no questions asked" policy in some states. You can bring them to police stations hospitals and I think fire stations but if you are planning to do this think REALLY hard about what the rest of your life might be like with out this baby!

I believe the law states any baby can be left under 3 days old, at any police station, hospital or church.

Check with your state laws. I do believe some states is within 72 hours to either a hosital, fire department, or police station. But check. There is other ways to do it to but just make sure someone is going to take the baby. ie Hand the baby to someone at the facilities.

I know in my state there is a law that you can leave an unwanted infant at either a hospital emergency room or a fire department with no questions asked.
I do not know how young the infant would have to be though.
