The absolute worst idea. Enough people from foreign countries have lost their identies/cultures, etc. There are a lot of countries in this world, and each should be entitled to have its own government--it would be great if they could all vote for the people they wanted to represent them, though.

Bad idea. Think. Would you prefer to be doing business with a monopoly, or with one organization in competition? Competition is a good thing. If things get too bad, you can still move to another country, so it's a defense against tyranny. Many German Jews evacuated before Hitler took complete power, because they could see it coming. If there were only one government, and that government decided that Jews were not worthy to live, where would they escape to?

In a one-world government, there's also probably less accountability to the people, because the government is farther away.

Finally, it's a very utopian idea. It assumes that the perfect government is possible. In the real world, all we have is bad and less bad. No government is ideal. If you believe that "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely", then the bigger and more powerful the government, the more dangerous it would be.

Bad. Having multiple government provides a national level check and balance. Just like the USA 3 branches balancing the power, so does diverse goverments. If one world government existed there would be nothing to check that governments actions.

You are asking a question akin to the meaning of life.

The only world I can think is Star Trek. You never hear that there are nations so I wonder if Earth ended with one government.

In the business world there are companies that have goals to be the master.

The same goes for any government.

Bad: we need diversity.
Good: maybe we might stop killing each other.

it's already here and it's the reason the world is looking so bad right now. For those who think it's impossible it's because it has so much control you don't notice it.
Time to wake up and smell the real and present danger we're all in.

think of the analogy of one car manufacturer vs all the ones we have now. Ford, General Motors Nissan )..I used to think several car companies was a waste of resources, it would be better to have one company, more uniform parts etc,,,,but this would be a disaster....competition and diversity is necessary to keep us aware of the total picture...a one world government would soon spin out of control because we would stop seeing the forrest for the trees

It could be both good and bad. It depends what kind of government it would be.

Funny how no one mentioned the problem of religion.

Very bad. its hard enough to let your opinions be heard in a country of 300million can you imagine one of 8 billion??? but also it might be cool no more illegal immigrants and no invading of other countries. i dont think the government would send an army to invade itself... hehehe just a thought

It is a pipe dream of radicals which WILL NOT WORK. If husbands and wives cannot agree and trust each other, how can the number of people it would take to run such an operation going to accomplish this NECESSARY task?
