I have bought and sold on eBay with not problem. If you are a buyer, check out the feedback scores of the sellers. Do not buy from in a situation that does not seem right.
You can get deals on eBay, but remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

I've bought and sold hundreds of items on eBay. I have only had a couple of occasions where I was less than satisfied and the seller made good for me. I never ever simply did not receive an item. I feel as though I ALWAYS gave the buyer what they were expecting or more.
You can not make a general statement about whether eBay is "safe" or not, though. It is made up of thousands (if not millions) of sellers and you will find all kinds there.
Read the feedback - even if it is 99.7% positive - before you bid with someone you are not familiar with. If they have a positive score of 12 and that's it, who can say? If they have a positive score of 12,000, then there's a good chance that they are as trustworthy (or more) as any other mail order operation.

it's safe as long as you make sure the person you're buying from is a reputable eBay seller. If they're selling a $5000 item for $300 and have a feedback score of 2 or something then it's probably a scam but if you check their feedback and they've been selling similar items for awhile and have a lot of good feedback then they're probably safe to buy from. You can always write and ask questions to see what the person is like. If they write back and they're polite and seem to know what they're talking about, go ahead and buy. If not, find someone else who's selling the item and buy it from them.

I've been using Ebay for a few years now, and haven't had any problems with it. I think I've always recieved what I ordered, though sometimes it takes a while for the sellers to ship their products. Also, you can create a Paypal account (www.paypal.com), which is much safer than using a credit card on the internet. Hope this helps!

Several studies have indicated that ebay causes cancer in lab rats, but only when they were exposed to thousands of times the bidding done by a normal person. All rats in the study, did however, find themselves deeply in debt and hawking (or should I say, "mousing") their wares on ebay to pay it off. Be warned!

I have been buying on e bay for about a year now, and over 98% of the dealers are good guys to deal with. 2% of the times you get something you didn't expect. For example, I once order a pair of grips for my Colt automatic handgun, and received only one half of the grips

Pretty safe. Especially if you follow their suggestions. They have procedures to deal with fraud on both sides. I get what I have ordered from stores and bid on in auction and sell reliably.
