I like to read the birth announcements in the newspaper, and I noticed that a lot of Hispanic people don't give their children middle names. Why is this? I hope no one takes offense at this question, I really was just curious.

It is cultural they use a first name and then the fathers last name and then mothers last name. It's how they track the fathers lineage. But if both parents have the same name like lopez you only see it once.

My best friend is Hispanic and him and his sisters and his mom don't have middle names. But I don't think it really has to do with being Hispanic cause he found out my middle name and he was like I didn't know you had a middle name. And I think all the other Hispanics I know have middle names.

I'm Hispanic and I have a middle name. My mom is originally from Puerto Rico. Her name is Milagros Isabelle and mine is Melisha Ann. I've really never heard of any reason why they wouldn't have a middle name...maybe it's some other Hispanic culture but I know it doesn't apply to the whole Hispanic race. Sorry I couldn't help more...I'm actually kind of curious now too :)

Hi
I lived in South America for a long time and everyone had a middle name there, not only that, but every time people address them they call them by both names... From all the people I met I only met 2 that didn't have a middle name...
I found that really interesting...

Hope this helps...

Interesting! Maybe they just don't print the middle names at the parents request. I have a few hispanic friends and they all have middle names.

In mexico, they usually always have the name Maria or Jose as their first. And they do have the dad's last name and then the mother's name. So I'm guessing in order for the child not to have a very long name. I don't have a middle name. But if I did it would be Erika Gallardo Monreal, if I did have a middle name it would be longer. My dad's name is Jose Andres Gallardo Castillo
