I think you're missing one important factor in your thought process.
I had a double lung transplant almost three years ago, due to Cystic Fibrosis. I was very fortunate that my employer offers good insurance plans, that I was/am able to work full-time and that I was able to work right up until my transplant.
At the time I was activated on the list and visiting the hospital daily for pulmonary monitoring there were a number of other people also waiting for their call. Most of them had been employed full-time, many of them enjoying at least a middle class lifestyle, but had to change their lifestyle because they were no longer able to work - directly due to the diseases and illnesses that destroyed their lungs and necessitated a transplant. A number of them no longer had insurance through an employer or ERISA program, and of course were not able to obtain private medical insurance. Most of the time friends, relatives and their community held various fundraisers for them, but a lung transplant including the pre and post care, as well as living expenses if relocation is necessary, is at least $500,000 (which doesn't include the continued immunosuppression medications and follow up care that we require for the rest of our lives).
As an added note, none of the people that were in my pre- or post-transplant groups were there because of smoking. All had other diseases or illnesses that were a result of something over which they had little or no control.
While I can understand your point of view to some extent, I think it leaves room for education on the transplant process on whole. Some people have been very fortunate in their lives and others have not had the same opportunities, so please have some empathy for those who have reached the point that transplant is the only thing preventing their death.
Best wishes.

I think the person who most needs the transplant should be put at the top of the list, regardless of monitary status or age.

While I'm sure there are rip offs that do this it is actually ilegal.
No I think that it should go to who needs it the most or is on the list first.
Trust me if we loose a rich person in the process it's alright there are always more to replace them.
Besides you must be rich to think that so maybe one day you will get your inheritance early thanks to this wonderful law.
Hey you sound greedy enough to kill the poor to save the rich then why not let the rich die so your greedy **** gets his shitt.

Money should not enter the equation. It should go to those who most need it. I shudder at the ramifications if only the wealthy were given the chance to live. How Nazi-like!!

who ever needs the transplant the most should be the one that receives it. not the one who has the most money to buy it.

That's disgusting, the person who needs it the most should get it. I am assuming you are in the States. In Canada, its done like this, that's why it takes so long. Canada has a better HC system, but it is nowhere near perfect.

Woopee - instead of need at the top.
So you have $100,000 that you keep handy in case you need a transplant - and insurance doesn't count!!!

I agree. Most people will agree with you, but I agree. But on the other hand, I also think that insurance should have to pay for transplants.

depends on if you care about others.
money isnt the most important thing in life...
sometimes its nice to give someone something when nothing is expected in return, nor can ever ben returned.
money is useless, you cant take it with you when you die after all.
