I have a 77 Monte Carlo that wont pass smog, but I'm getting decent mileage about 12mpg, and if it doesn't pass smog my dad wants me to sell it and buy a new truck, it was my moms first car, and i don't want to sell it.
Its been parked for last part of a decade, but runs, needs tranny seals.

It wasn't passing smog before it was parked.

I believe it had a new caty-con on it, and its in CA and the smog Nazis at the DMV still require it

ITS IN CA, ITS REQUIRED TO BE SMOGGED
it has to be older than 75 to not be smogged, it doesn't matter how old it is, its the model year that counts

Guess it depends on where you live. Here, in Texas, anything over 25 years old is considered an antique and doesn't require a smog certification. My '65 and '68 Mustangs only require a safety inspection, no smog check.

get an antigue tag . just make sure your car is in good condition . not perfect just good, for a 77 you dont need to pass smog test with an antigue tag . the second person is right

well probably not a lot you can do about it. Wouild cost you a small fortune to update it to make it pass. And 12 mpg is not good btw. I get better milage with my 3/4 tom 4x4.
