$0.90 (ninety cents U.S.) for a one ounce letter in a standard business envelope (4" x 9.5").

Go here to see more postage options: http://ircalc.usps.gov/default.aspx?Mode=Intl_Single&CID=10197

The easiest thing to do is to take it to a Post Office (usps building if in the US) and just hand them your letter. Depending on the destination & the weight of the letter (and other things like is it an open letter / in a box etc) the post office clerk will charge you exactly for the stamp. They will also paste the stamp and seal it for delivery for you. All you need to do is pay by cash / credit card and your letter is on its way - it will reach India within a week's time (regular postage).

It depends upon the weight of the envelope containing the letter, as the postage rates are based on weight.
