I am no car expert so I cannot tell if I really need something when the mechanic offers some services. By the way I am going to the certified deal mechanic. I am going to get an oil change and tire rotation. Is there anything else that I should check for or replace. I have not done any work with the brakes over the last two years and got a wheel alignment at 21,000 miles.

Most of the cars today have spark plug change intervals in the 100,000 mile range. Same for the wires. Look in your owners manual under Maintenance Intervals. It should list everything that the manufacturer considers necessary. Personally I'd have the brake fluid flushed as the fluid tends to absorb moisture which, overtime, will ruin the master and wheel cylinders. Most manufacturers recommend two year intervals for that. Also change the breather filter and the cabin air filter, if it has one, and the wiper blades.

What kind of car are we talking about? 24,000 miles should be past due for the second oil change. Wheel alignment should be OK if you just had it checked 3000 miles ago, and you don't have a problem with the car going straight down the road. Brakes should be checked visually with every oil service. If the brakes are not stopping equally or if there is a shimmy in the steering wheel with brakes applied, you might want to "true" the brake rotors or change at least the front brake pads. Do you have an owners manual? There should be a list of things to do for each service interval. For example, change the transmission fluid, and or the axle lubricant depending on the make of car and how it is being driven. You could also ask your mechanic friend more details about what he feels should be done.

YOU SHOULD GET THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SCANNED AND CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS AS WELL AS CODES AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD IDEA ON WHAT THE PROBLEM TRULY IS.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

LEAVE IT THERE WITH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT WILL BE A LOT BETTER THAN JUST REPLACING PART AFTER PART AND NOT DOING ANY GOOD.

You should consult the maintenance schedule in your owners manual. Hope that helps.
