The "motion sensing" feature on most lights (and security systems) is a passive system that detects infrared energy. I got this from the net I didn't think it was laser activated but by infra red technology so I looked it up to be sure.

I just tried it at 2:20 am. The result was the laser pointer did not activate the motion lights.

yes laser pointers will activate outdoor motion detectors in fact just a normal flashlight should work.

I don't think so. The motion detectors respond to infrared heat. The little 1/10 watt energy of the laser pointer does not have enough infrared energy to set it off.
