Its a slang term that can mean multiple things depending on the context, though in most cases (at least of what I've heard) it is used as an agreement. Such as this sentence.

Hey Brian, wanna catch a movie later today?
Word man, I'll be there.

Or in another case in which I've commonly heard it can be used as something you say after you've acomplished somehting.

Man, we owned that team, word!

It could mean being in agreement with something or like saying "really?". Just depends on the context. This is common in urban communities.

well when ppl say "word" it usualy means they get what your saying , it can also mean ok

rofl dude.. people havent said word in like 10-15 yrs.. unless your in a rural or white community(no offense).. im from san fransisco so its all diverse here and my school is pretty much divided in ethnicities so you laern all the new stuff taht goes on
