I guess I am asking for Americans in particular, but I think it is universal. Do you have any examples of how money corrupts society today?

Money does not corrupt society people do - usually over money. Capitalism has cured more ills then its ever created but people are inherently corrupt and given the opportunity take advantage of those they can for money. Always put the blame on the individual rather then the icon (money is the icon).

Money has corrupted society since the dawn of time.
Remember Christ throwing the money-changers out of the temple?
Judas sold out for thirty pieces of silver.
Of the seven deadly sins, greed is perhaps the worst. Our obsessive avarice keeps us lusting for more. If a man has a million dollars, he 'needs' two million. If he has two million, he 'needs' four million. And we call that 'success' and 'determination' when all it really is - is pure greed.
Today we're in an unconstitutional, illegal, unjustifiable, immoral 'war' against another sovereign nation that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the U.S.A. all for the sake of OIL and WAR PROFITEERING. While our U.S. government might tell us we're fighting to defend our borders against foreign enemies, or troops are dying to bring democracy to Iraq, the simple fact is plain: the wealthy elitists, industrialists and sleazy politicians all want more MONEY. -RKO- 08/12/07

The men and women who do not cherish wealth are not in those nightclubs. Perhaps you are looking in the wrong places. Money does not buy love or friendship. If the man at the club loses his wallet, those girls are gone to flutter around someone with money, along with the guys he was buying drinks for. So where are his "friends" then? I would rather a man be attracted to me than to my money. If he loves me he will be with me for richer and for poorer. If he loves money, he will dump me and follow another if the source of money runs out. Choose your friends wisely.

For the LOVE of Money is the root of all evil...

It will make someone justify murder, robbery, money laundering, fraud, you name it.
